Code of Conduct

Participants in the Nanaimo Seniors Mixed Slo-Pitch League (Nanaimo SMS) shall conduct themselves on the field of play in a manner that ensures a safe, respectful and positive experience for the other participants and for the organization.

Keeping in mind that the Nanaimo SMS League is a recreational softball activity for players of all skill levels, the primary focus is to have an enjoyable experience, exercise, support each other and provide an environment of teamwork and comraderie.

It is the expectation of the League and of the participants that the use of inappropriate language and behaviour should not occur. Inappropriate language includes profanity, innuendo, gestures and expressions that might make other participants or spectators uncomfortable. Inappropriate behaviour includes unnecessary or unwelcomed physical contact.

Participants shall conduct themselves according to the Code of Conduct, the Rules of Play of the Nanaimo SMS League, and the rules of the National Softball Association of Canada.

The organization has the right to disassociate itself from any participant for fraud, theft or gross violation of the Rules of Play or Code of Conduct. If the Board of Directors feels that a participant has an adverse effect on others, it may vote to exclude that participant from future involvement in the League.

During a game, if a participant violates the Code of Conduct, the Rules of Play, or deliberately tries to cause injury to another participant or spectator, that participant and their behaviour should be promptly addressed and responded to:
1. If another participant observes the transgression, they have the option of addressing it directly with the offender and bringing it to the attention of the captains and umpire; or
2. The person who observes the transgression can ask that the play stop and discuss the situation with the captains and umpire.

The captains and umpire will discuss the matter and decide by vote what further action should occur at that time. A Board member shall be informed in a timely manner and the Board will decide if further action is required.
